His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world.
In my WAR, though, I found peace.
I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life …all inside his head.
But then my captor came back for me.
Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected.
So we thought.
Even though my WAR was raging, my captor would fight to the death.
The good guys always win, right?
Not always.
All’s fair in love and WAR, right?
Not this time.
Warning: This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Human trafficking, dubious consent, and strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.
Baylee is a normal 17 year old girl with a happy life, a boyfriend and a sick mother, who needs a new liver in order to survive her illness.
Everything changes when Gabe barges into her life and kidnaps her. Baylee's life will never be the same after everything that happens to her. The one who has captured her is deprived and has done a number on her, while preparing her for her buyer, since she knows that soon enough she will be sold to another sick monster. And that's when War comes into the picture.
What happens next is a whole different story and I'd rather not say much further. I think it's one of the stories that you should go blind. Because the twists that are being offered are so much pleasurable. So go blind, keep an open mind and just enjoy the ride.
Part1 wasn't pleasant for me and the things she endured were just ugly. And I will never see cucumber the same way again. I think I'm hunted by this visual and I will react like War did.. I wasn't impressed with Bay. I thought her thoughts were all over the place. I kept feeling like a tennis ball going back and forth, trying to understand her feelings or actions. Also, I have to admit that I didn't like Gabe at all. I kept thinking that if he's the one I am supposed to root for, I won't like this book, because I just wanted him dead. In the most tortured way.
This is War, Baby was such a compelling story since the first pages of the prologue. A rollercoaster of emotions and kept me on my toes the whole time. I seriously enjoyed it, even though my heart was beating uncontrollably. The moment Warren entered the picture, I felt such a big relief and held my hopes over him. Let me say I wasn't disappointed. I'd rather his fucked up mind over Gabe's any moment. What can I say? I have a thing for troubled heroes ;)
As for the ending, such a cruel ending to leave us hanging like that until the next instalment. I thought it was a standalone and hadn't needed to stress about an evil cliffhanger, but here I am bitting my nails and rocking back and forth ready to have all my questions answered like right now!!
Overall, if you enjoy dark romance then you need to meet War, ladies & gentlemen. Pick up the book and give it a chance. :)
