When the shocking discovery of a murdered woman's body disturbs the tranquility of tourist season, the police detective in charge of the puzzling case must work alongside the new filmmaker in town to pursue every lead in the new romantic thriller from New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin.

After a scandal derails her television reporting career, Macey Burns comes looking for a change of pace in Lost Beach, Texas. She's ready to focus on her first passion--documentary filmmaking--and has a new job working for the island's tourism board, shooting footage of the idyllic beachside community. Her plans for a relaxing rebound are dashed when she realizes the cottage she's renting belonged to the woman whose body was just found in the sand dunes.

Detective Owen Breda is under intense pressure to solve this murder. Violent crimes are rising in his small town, and he can't stand to see anyone else hurt...especially not the beautiful documentarian who keeps showing up at the precinct.

With the clock ticking, cameras rolling, and body count climbing, Macey and Owen must use all their resources to find the killer without getting caught in the crosshairs.

Midnight Dunes is the third book in Laura Griffin's Texas Murder Files series but can be enjoyed as a standalone with no problem. This story follows Macey Burns as she starts down a new path in her life as a film maker. Starting with a tourism commercial set in the idyllic town of Lost Beach. But her inquisitive nature from being an ex-reporter is brought back to focus when the body of a local woman is found and Macey finds herself caught up in not only the mystery, but the life of lead detective Owen Breda.

Macey was a great heroine to read about and I loved the way her mind worked. Asking just the right questions about the crime without getting too involved that it distracted the actual investigators. I also really loved those moments of vulnerability from Owen about his career and the investigation. It's not often you see a hero in these types of novels show that side of their character but it really helped connect to him.

The mystery was really fun to try and solve along with these characters as well. It made for an intriguing story and I couldn't put it down once I started.

With three hearts to worry about, as well as my own, time will tell if I’m up for the task.

I’ve always been normal. Okay, maybe more of an average guy, who’s quiet and awkward. Just someone who’s trying to survive living in my trailer while dodging my mom’s debt collectors.

Everything changes when a power within me surfaces, and my eyes are thrown wide open.

Humans aren’t the only ones who walk the earth.

Read that again, but slowly. I know. I can hardly believe it either.

There’s more. With my newfound power, I’m expected to attend a college to learn how to use my slightly terrifying and temperamental telekinetic ability, a power I apparently should have received when I was a kid, not at twenty-one.

Throw in my new roommates and my brain threatens to overload while my heart can’t figure out who or what it wants. All my traitorous heart is sure of is that it’s greedy and beats far too fast when any of the three not-completely-human men are around.

Not that my wanting will do me any good. There’s Cade who hates me, Zeke who’s super nice and understanding but way out of my league, and Hyde who’s as scary as he is quiet.
I have no idea if I’ll survive the changes, but I really want to. Just wait and see for yourself. As soon as you meet these guys, you’ll understand and see our undeniable connection. Just be warned, nothing but death will stop me protecting my hearts.

I loved this! Micah and his men were brilliant together and I really enjoyed how different they all were. The mix of personalities between them made it a really fun read. As well as getting to learn about this new paranormal world and the different characters. There wasn't anything super involved about the world that we had to discover so it left a lot of room to just enjoy the guys and their romance. There was just the right amount of world building to let us explore the paranormal without there being too much information dumped on us at once.

The connection between the main characters was definitely more of a slow burn even though it's very clear right away that Zeke, Hyde, and Cade all belong with Micah. Hyda and Cade had their reasons for fighting the bond and I really enjoyed seeing their struggle. Saying they needed to stay away yet finding it impossible to not be near Micah. While Zeke was more of the peacekeeper between them all. And Micah was such a sweetheart I loved his character and getting to see him gain confidence as the story went on.
