Power Play

Power Play by Toni Aleo is AVAILABLE NOW!
Universal -- getbook.at/PowerPlayTA

Posey Adler is coming home. After a devastating journey for what she mistakenly thought was true love, she is saying to hell with men and love forever. As the Nashville Assassins’s new assistant coach for special teams, Posey is ready to focus on her job and have the attention on her for a change. She’s been haunted by her place in her sister’s shadow, but this is her chance to shine and force her family to take notice. But in order to make a name for herself, she’s going to have to go toe-to-toe with her team’s leading power play scorer.

Boon Hoenes lives for special teams. The power play is his favorite thing about the game. He loves having that advantage over his opponent. And most of the time, it’s his quick thinking that sends the puck to the back of the goal when he’s on the ice. Off the ice, however, no amount of quick thinking prepared his heart for being dumped by his college sweetheart. Boon has sworn off women, but when Posey Adler comes onto his ice—and kicks him off his beloved power play—he decides she’s one woman he doesn’t want to swear off.

They’ve both been hurt, but instead of going in for the penalty kill, Boon is ready to convince Posey their hearts are the secret to how they’ll win.

How they’ll score the ultimate goal.
A forever kind of love.

Power Play is the second installment of Toni Aleo's Nashville Assasins: Next Generation series and follows Posey Adler. This book can be read as a standalone with no problem but for fans of this series and author there are a ton of cameo's from previous characters.

Boon and Posey have both been in hurt in the past so they're not exactly looking for a relationship. But on the ice with Posey pushing Boon to be a better Hockey player the sparks fly and neither of them can skate away from each other. The chemistry between them was so strong and it made for a very intriguing story. They grew from friends to something so much more and getting to see that was amazing.

In all honesty I wasn't sure how I would feel about Posey in her own story since she wasn't my favorite character in the last book but all of my fears about her quickly vanished once I started this book. She was a strong character and it was easy to admire her.

Overall, this is a definite recommended read for any fans of a steamy sports romance.

Manhattan

Everyone knows not to fall in love with your best friend.

But when your best friend is Michael Becker, it’s impossible not to.

He’s everything our town knows a Becker brother to be: devastatingly handsome, charming as a thief, and the icing on the cake — a sentimental musician who’s never without his guitar.

And he was mine. At least, that’s what I’d convinced myself.

Our bond was born in elementary school, strengthened by circumstance and the promise to always be there for each other, no matter what. And the best thing about my life was being friends with Michael Becker.

Until it was the worst.

I watched him fall in love with someone else, and helped patch him back up when she left him behind. But when he drops the bomb that he’s moving to New York, I realize it’s my last chance to tell him how I feel. And I ask him to make one more promise.

One summer. One list of adventures to remind him that our small town has more to offer than memories of the girl who left him behind.

One last chance to tell him I’m in love with him.

And I’m just dumb enough to believe that maybe he could love me, too.

🥃 LIVE EARLY! 🥃

Kylie and Mikey have seen each other through their hardest times in life, as well as the best. They shared everything with one another and were as close as friends could possibly be. Except the one secret that Kylie has, that she's in love with Mikey. But now he wants to move away and Kylie doesn't want to lose her chance to finally tell him how she feels. So she sets up a whole summer of adventures to get Mikey to see what he's been missing all these years.

I loved these two and they were definitely friendship goals. They had such a fun relationship, even when there was some tension between them when they disagreed about Mikey moving you could still see that they cared for each other. Those disagreements also added some angst that I loved, which I'm usually not a big fan of a lot of angst in my books, but with Mikey and Kylie it was that kind of angst that also adds some sexual tension that gets me captivated. It made for a really intriguing story and one that I loved reading.

Overall, this is a brilliant story and it's definitely recommended. You could read it as a standalone with no problem but there is an underlying story that is started in the previous books so I would say to read those first if you're someone that needs all the little details.

House of Scarlett

New York Times bestselling author Meghan March continues the Legend Trilogy.

Gabriel Legend is unlike any other man I’ve ever met.
He came into my life like a hurricane, shattering all my assumptions and preconceived notions.
I wasn’t prepared for him. I wasn’t prepared for any of it.
But life doesn’t wait until you’re ready.
Whatever happens next, I know one thing for certain.
I will never be the same Scarlett I was before I met him.

House of Scarlett is the second book in the Legend Trilogy and should be read after The Fall of Legend, book one.

Meghan March lured me into this series with a false sense of security and had me thinking the cliffhangers wouldn't be too bad. The previous book, The Fall of Legend, didn't end in a way that had me ripping out my hair and screaming for more, which is definitely what usually happens with her cliffhangers. But then we have House of Scarlett where the ending of the book had me ferociously hitting my kindle trying to get to the next page so I could find out what happens next. Spoiler alert, there was no next page and I will be going crazy until I can get my hands on the conclusion of Legend and Scarlett's story.

In this installment of the trilogy we get to learn a little more about Legend and actually got into his head a bit more than in the previous book. It had me loving him so hard and rooting for him to get Scarlett back. They were amazing together and the mix of his hardened personality with her softer one made for such a fun read.

Bottom line, I can't wait to see how this story will end but if this book is anything to go by, I know it will be a brilliant conclusion.

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

Beard Necessities

BANNER_BN_BT.jpg

Billy Winston’s family is going to see him happy and in love if it’s the last thing they do.

Beard Necessities, the final standalone in the bestselling romantic comedy Winston Brothers series from New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Penny Reid, is available now!

20191008-BN.jpg

Billy Winston’s family is going to see him happy and in love if it’s the last thing they do.

No one deserves a happily-ever-after quite as much as the second oldest Winston brother and his lady love, Claire McClure (aka Scarlet St. Claire). Cruelty and circumstance tore them apart almost twenty years ago. Secrecy and bitterness kept them separated.

But you know who's tired of their separation and stubbornness? Everyone. Especially Billy Winston’s family. And now they're going to do something about it.

Well-meaning interference means the star-crossed lovers can’t stop tripping over each other in the hills of Tuscany, the catacombs of Rome, and the waterways of Venice. Billy and Claire find themselves thrown together and at the mercy of the Winston siblings’ shenanigans.

But will their forced proximity bring them together? Or push them even further apart?

This second-chance romance brings back the entire Winston gang, playing cupid in one last story of love, hi-jinks, and family collusion.

BEARD NECESSITIES is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, and can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s probably best read after books 0.5, 2, 3, 5, and 6 of the Winston Brothers series.

Billy and Scarlet's story was one that I've been highly anticipating. There was so much tension and heartache between them that I just knew their book was going to be something special. I loved all of that back and forth between them and it had me captivated to see how they would finally move past everything.

I adored them together and all of their sweetness once they were able to move past the hurt. There was so much steam and tension in their relationship and it was so intriguing I couldn't stop reading. I also loved the moments with the rest of the Winston gang, especially Cletus, as they tried to help Billy and Scarlet realize they were perfect together.

Overall, this is definitely a must read series. I would say it definitely needs to be read in order to truly fall in love with the Winston's, especially Billy. As sad as I am to see this family go, it was one amazing adventure with them.

TEASER01.jpg

Excerpt

Strolling to the desk, I set down the milk and cookies, crossed my arms and turned to face my brother. “You’re pointing out that Scarlet and I will see each other during various family functions.” “Correct.” “And, therefore,” I continued reasonably, “I need to be nice to her.” I knew that already, and tonight—after watching her face crumple and feeling a part of my soul shrivel at the sight—I’d finally accepted it. I would be nice. I would be so damn nice. I’d be a saint. But then Cletus said, “No, Billy. Not nice. Nice is for tea parties and doctor’s visits. You need to woo her.” I blinked once. “Woo her.” “That’s right. You need to woo the pants off her, hopefully literally, and then make that woman yours. Permanently. Once and for all. Put a ring on it. Woo is where it’s at. Jenn still has the centerpieces from our wedding if you’d like to borrow them.” During this enlightening monologue, he’d moseyed over and picked up the glass of milk and a cookie, dunked the cookie into the milk, and then took a bite just as he’d finished his listings of delusions. “That’s never going to happen.” “Why not? Those centerpieces are lovely. You don’t know your color scheme yet. Ask Scarlet before you decide.” I ground my teeth. “Scarlet and I are never going to happen, Cletus.” He shook his head firmly. “I’m disappointed in your lack of ambition, Billy. I thought we’d be on the same page. But I see now, I’m going to have to take a tough love approach.” “Cletus—” “I’m going to give you one chance,” he said, then pushed the rest of the cookie in his mouth and spoke around it as he continued, “One more chance is all you get. I’ve waited long enough for this and you know my feelings on delayed gratification.” “Pardon?” “It’s overrated.” He took a gulp of milk and picked up another cookie. “No, Cletus. One chance on what?” “I’m giving you one chance. One.” He pointed the cookie at me. “Tomorrow, you’re going to go find her, apologize to her for whatever that kerflufflefuck was I walked in on. Tell her you were suffering from temporary insanity, hopped up on illicit drugs, abducted by asshole probing aliens, whatever. I’m giving you one chance to make this right, and if you don’t take it, you are not going to like what happens next.”

Into the Dark

Into the Dark
Karen Rose
Cincinnati series Book 5
November 26, 2019

When Michael Rowland saves his younger brother Joshua from the clutches of his stepfather, he runs for his life with his brother in his arms. From his hiding place he sees the man who has made their lives a misery taken away in the trunk of a stranger's car, never to be seen again.

Doctor Dani Novak has been keeping soccer coach Diesel Kennedy at arm's length to protect him from her dark secrets. When they are brought together by the two young brothers who desperately need their help, it seems they might finally be able to leave their damaged pasts behind them.

But as the only witness to the man who kidnapped and murdered his stepfather, Michael is in danger. As Diesel and Dani do all that they can to protect him, their own investigation into the murder uncovers a much darker web of secrets than they could have imagined.

As more bodies start to appear it's clear that this killer wants vengeance. And will wipe out anything that gets in his way.

Karen Rose is one of my favorite Romantic Suspense authors and I know with every book of hers that I start that I will love it. Into the Dark was no different and right from the beginning this story had me captivated. Dani and Diesel had a relationship and connection that actually surprised me with how personal they got. It was a bit of a change from the usual heavy focus on the suspense that Ms. Rose does but I liked that we got to see so much of these characters all while still getting that mystery aspect.

There was a lot going on in this book and it all came together really well. Dani and Diesel had so much to work out, we had a mystery trying to be unraveled, the killer's thoughts thrown in giving clues that will keep you guessing. And it all worked so well together and added to the intrigue that had me loving this book.

This was actually my first book in the Cincinnati series but I could follow along with all of the side characters without issue and now I can't wait to go back and read their own stories. I do think it would be better to read the series in order so that you get a better understanding of the characters, but it's not necessary.

Internationally bestselling, RITA-award winning, author Karen Rose was born and raised in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. She met her husband, Martin, on a blind date when they were seventeen and after they both graduated from the University of Maryland, (Karen with a degree in Chemical Engineering) they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Karen worked as an engineer for a large consumer goods company, earning two patents, but as Karen says, “scenes were roiling in my head and I couldn't concentrate on my job so I started writing them down. I started out writing for fun, and soon found I was hooked.”

Her debut suspense novel, DON'T TELL, was released in July, 2003. Since then, she has published fifteen more novels and two novellas. Her seventeenth novel, ALONE IN THE DARK, will be released in 2016.

Her novels, I'M WATCHING YOU and SILENT SCREAM, received the Romance Writers of America's RITA award for Best Romantic Suspense for 2005 and 2011. Five of her other books have been RITA finalists. To date, her books have been translated into twenty-four languages.

A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land.
An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny.
We signed a contract on the back of a Boar’s Head Pub napkin that said if we ever met again, we would drop everything and be together.
Eight years and thousands of miles later, he’s here.
In New York.
And he’s America’s music obsession.
The intangible Irish poet who brings record executives to their knees.
The blizzard in my perfect, unshaken snow globe.
Last time we spoke, he was a beggar with no intention of becoming a king.
But a king he became, and now I’m his servant.
I’m not the same broken princess Malachy Doherty put back together with his callused hands.
I have a career I love.
A boyfriend I adore.
An apartment, a roommate, a life.
I changed. He changed, too.
But Mal kept the napkin.
Question is, will I keep my word?

Wow this book was brilliant! I don't really know why I'm so surprised. LJ Shen just keeps getting better and better. I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The story was emotional, heart breaking, funny and sexy in parts God that part was just wow. You have to read it and when you do you will know what I'm talking about. The characters were so good I luvd the them straight away. The way this book was written was amazing I think it what made this book so good for me. It's so different to any book I've read the pov's were just brilliant. I luv getting into characters heads and this was just perfect for me.

Mal was just a great character I luvd his confidence, swagger and Irish charm. When the guy knew what he wanted he was getting end of story. No woman stands a chance with him. Once he seen Aurora/Rory that was it he knew she was the one and he would do anything to have her even if he couldn't have her straight away. Just thank God for a napkin contract.

Aurora/Rory where do I start with her. She is great I liked her straight away. She hasn't had it easy but she still tries to look at things in a good way. When she goes to Ireland it's meant to be a quick trip she wasn't meant to find a hot sexy Irish rockstar. But Rory didn't stand a chance with him. There connection was instant and so hard to fight. But there story is no way pretty they go through so much.

This story really was great I luvd that Mal's character had the Irish slang and humor. The author did this so good with not being Irish it couldn't of been easy. Living in Ireland and hearing it everyday I have to say she did good. I'm true LJ Shen style the angst was there and heart breaking. Mal and Rory's story is beautiful and sad. I felt for them in parts they just needed to talk and listen there both so fiery characters and think they know everything. But with the secrets and lies there wasn't a chance they did. The twists had me gripped to the book I was dying to know what was going to happen next it had me scared and excited. I would highly recommend this book. If you have read anything from this author you have to read this. It's one of my favourite books from her.

The Fall of Legend

From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a new deliciously dangerous alpha hero in The Fall of Legend, the first book in the brand new and utterly addictive Legend trilogy.

We come from two different worlds.
I’m from the streets. She might as well live in an ivory tower.
I made my living with my fists. I doubt she could even throw a punch.
Our paths never should have crossed.
We never should have met.
That doesn’t change the facts.
I would sell my soul to taste those red lips.
Fight the devil himself to hear her laugh.
Burn in hell to have a single night.
Scarlett Priest shouldn’t even know men like me exist, but sometimes temptation is stronger than will.
If this is how I go down, it’ll be worth every second of the fall.

Meghan March is one of the only authors I'll actually read a trilogy from since they're not really my favorite things. I tend to get bored after so long with just one story being followed in multiple books. But the way she writes her characters always has me intrigued and dying for more with every book. This book had that same intrigue that I like from her and I'm really curious to see what will happen with these characters, but there was just something missing with the story to truly keep me captivated.

It seemed slower paced than I'm used to this authors books being, especially for the first book in a trilogy. There was so much of the story where Legend and Scarlet were separated and doing there own thing so it ended up lacking a bit on the romance. And the entire middle part of the book pretty much had nothing that was bringing them together either.

Overall, not my favorite start to a Meghan March trilogy, but it did get me very interested in the characters and I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen in the next installment.

Tacker

Tacker (Arizona Vengeance, Book #5)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: November 5, 2019

I am not okay.

Fifteen months ago, my life was turned upside down when the plane I was piloting went down. Injured and trapped in the wreckage, I had to watch my fiancée die a painfully slow death, which is something that can really mess with your head.

Since that day, I’ve had little desire to do much of anything. Except play hockey, that is. Because that is the one place where the bad memories are banished and I can escape my pain.

But off the ice, I’m spiraling out of control. Losing the grip on my life and putting myself and my career in danger. Now, thanks to a string of bad decisions, I’ve been ordered to complete therapy in order to stay on the team.

The problem? Nora Wayne, my beautiful and somewhat unconventional therapist. I can’t buy into the brand of happy clappy crap this woman is feeding me. What could she possibly understand about the type of loss that I’ve suffered? How does she know anything about finding happiness after losing the most important person in your life?

Turns out, I’ve got a lot to learn, and she’s just the person I need to break through those walls I’ve erected.

I am not okay.
But for the first time in a long time, I know that I will be.

Tacker brought all the feels to this series and I absolutely adored it. Tacker Hall is having a hard time dealing with the pain of losing his fiance in a plane crash. A plane that he was piloting and was then stuck in while his fiance died next to him. When his grief gets too out of control he's sent to therapy in the hopes that he'll learn how to cope and be able to love hockey again. And with the help of his therapist, Nora Wayne, he may even learn to love more than the game.

Tacker's pain was so heartbreaking to see in the previous books and it also made him a bit of a mystery since it was hard to tell what was under all of that grief. So I was really excited to get my hands on this story and finally meet the Tacker that wasn't overcome by his sadness and determined to push people away. Well let me just say, it was well worth the wait and I loved him.

He and Nora's relationship was slow moving and didn't actually develop into something more until later in the book than I usually like. But it worked for them and made sense to their story so I enjoyed that we got to see Nora helping and befriending Tacker before there was more of a romance. They also had almost no angsty moments and I appreciated that there wasn't any drama coming between them and hurting all the progress that Tacker had made in moving on. That's not to say that they didn't have a very enjoyable romance though. I loved them together and Nora was an amazing and likable heroine.

Overall, this is a must read and I definitely recommend it. Tacker has been in the previous books but you can read this one as a standalone with no problem.
