Never Have I Ever

In this game, even winning can be deadly...

Amy Whey is proud of her ordinary life and the simple pleasures that come with it—teaching diving lessons, baking cookies for new neighbors, helping her best friend, Charlotte, run their local book club. Her greatest joy is her family: her devoted professor husband, her spirited fifteen-year-old stepdaughter, her adorable infant son. And, of course, the steadfast and supportive Charlotte. But Amy’s sweet, uncomplicated life begins to unravel when the mysterious and alluring Angelica Roux arrives on her doorstep one book club night.

Sultry and magnetic, Roux beguiles the group with her feral charm. She keeps the wine flowing and lures them into a game of spilling secrets. Everyone thinks it’s naughty, harmless fun. Only Amy knows better. Something wicked has come her way—a she-devil in a pricey red sports car who seems to know the terrible truth about who she is and what she once did.

When they’re alone, Roux tells her that if she doesn’t give her what she asks for, what she deserves, she’s going to make Amy pay for her sins. One way or another.

To protect herself and her family and save the life she’s built, Amy must beat the devil at her own clever game, matching wits with Roux in an escalating war of hidden pasts and unearthed secrets. Amy knows the consequences if she can’t beat Roux. What terrifies her is everything she could lose if she wins.

A diabolically entertaining tale of betrayal, deception, temptation, and love filled with dark twists leavened by Joshilyn Jackson’s trademark humor, Never Have I Ever explores what happens when the transgressions of our past come back with a vengeance.

Never Have I Ever... it's a game you've probably played when you were in High School trying to get all the dirty details from you friends and frenemeies. Or in college on a late night of drinking and acting silly. But I bet you've never played a game like this before. When Angelica Roux makes the rules, it turns into a game of destruction, and takes Amy Whey, the seemingly perfectly together housewife, on a path of secrets, lies, and blackmail.

This story was a heart pounding, gripping, tale that had me captivated from the beginning. The secrets that come out as the book moves forward had me wide eyed on more than one occasion, but the true heart pounding moments were what came after those secrets were revealed. It became a twisted game of will she, or won't she as I read on to find out how Amy was going to deal with the craziness Roux was throwing at her. At one point I'm pretty sure I even gasped at the end of a certain chapter and I was flipping to the next page like a mad woman.

The only things that kept me from absolutely loving this story were the few times that the writing felt a little too all over the place. In the span of only a few pages it would jump from topic to topic and it made it hard to follow. Especially the beginning when we were still getting to know the players in this twisted game. And then we had the end that had some major shockers that I would have really loved to be able to explore a bit more, but it was over so soon after those were revealed.

Bottom line, any story that keeps me that intrigued get's a huge recommendation from me. This was my first read by Joshilyn Jackson but it certainly won't be my last and I'm excited to go back and see what other mysteries she can suck me into.

December and Gareth gave me all the feels. Their relationship was seriously so adorable and I loved how easily they jumped into each other's lives. For the most part their story was a pretty easy and angst free read, which I thought really worked for them. We had a lot of time to focus on them as a couple and got to see all of the emotions from that, and I thought it was great. There was still a little bit of angst thrown in, though, so it wasn't all just fluff.

Gareth was the perfect Alpha hero with a little extra swoon worthiness when we got to see him being a great dad. I loved how he brought out a little bit of December's bad girl side that she mostly kept hidden. She's definitely not as outspoken as some of the other Mayson's but in this book we got to discover that she also isn't as much of the good girl that you might have thought she was from the previous books.

I definitely recommend reading this bookk and will also say that it could probably be read as a standalone since there aren't a ton of Mayson's that make appearances. Though, I also recommend reading the other books as well just because they're so good.

Dax

Dax (Arizona Vengeance, Book #4)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: July 9, 2019

The Arizona Vengeance is killing it on the ice. But one player can’t seem to keep his eye on the puck — all thanks to the woman he just married to save her life.

My name is Dax Monahan and hockey is my passion. And if you want to succeed in this sport you have to bust your ass 24/7. I’ve never had a hard time focusing on my career, but when my past comes knocking, no amount of training can prepare me for what lies on the other side of the door.

Regan Miles was always like a sister to me. When a shared tragedy brings us face to face aft er several years, I’m shocked to see just how much she’s changed. Gone is the shy, awkward little girl that always used to chase me and her brother around. Instead, I’m faced with a gorgeous woman who makes it damn hard to concentrate on anything but her.

Turns out, she’s in trouble, and the only way out is to get married.

I surprise myself when I tell her to marry me. Order her, actually. And most shocking of all, she doesn’t even hesitate before saying yes.

So it ’s settled. We’re getting hitched and she’s moving to Arizona with me. All platonic, of course.

Dax is book 4 of the Arizona Vengeance series and, as you might have guessed by the title, brings us to Dax Monahan. His story takes place parallel to most of the previous book, Legend, and there are some events from that book that are brought up in this one. None of the events overshadow Dax's own story though and it was pretty cool to see those same scenes from a different POV.

Dax's story starts off with him going to meet his best friends little sister after hearing of her brothers death. Regan Miles isn't the same little girl he remembers though and seeing her all grown up gives him some not-so-brotherly thoughts. Especially when he convinces her to marry him in order to help her situation.

I loved these two. There wasn't a ton of angst between them but they brought so much sexual tension to the story that I really enjoyed. Their relationship was mostly an easy one but that's what I liked about it so much. It gave a lot of page time to them together and figuring it out without drama to interfere. Both Dax and Regan were amazing to read about, and even more so when they were together.

Overall, I certainly recommend reading this book. Since the timeline overlaps with the previous book I would recommend reading that one before starting Dax. This story also leaves us with hints of what's to come in the series and I, for one, am very excited to see what's coming.

The Me I Used to Be

In New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Ryan’s bold new novel, Evangeline Austen returns to her family’s sprawling Napa Valley ranch, determined to rebuild her life and expose the shocking truth about the past.

She’s not the naïve girl she used to be…

After serving time for a crime she didn’t commit, Evangeline returns home to a cold welcome. Her mother blames her for her father’s death, and her brothers want her out of their way. When Evangeline learns she’s solely responsible for their failing ranch—putting her family’s future squarely on her shoulders—she’ll have to find a creative way to save their home before they lose it all.

She’ll have her reckoning...

Her only ally: the cop who sent her away. Chris Chambers is positive she went to prison to protect someone else. He strikes a deal: help him track down the real criminals in exchange for clearing her name. But the closer Evangeline and Chris get to exposing the truth—and to each other—the deeper Evangeline is drawn into a dangerous sting that could finally bring her justice…or put her dreams on hold permanently.

She’ll fight for the life she always wanted…

Everyone’s lives moved on while Evangeline’s stood still. Now she has a chance to rebuild her family ranch, her life, and expose the people who put her away, so she can become the woman she was always meant to be.

The Me I Used to Be was a crazy intriguing story with a lot of heartfelt moments. The book follows Evangeline after she's released from prison where she served 4 years for a crime she didn't commit. There's no going back to her life from before she was in prison, so now she'll have to figure out how she's going to navigate this new life post-jail time. But with one major obstacle int he way - catching the real criminals.

I have to say, there was a lot of frustration from seeing how Evangeline's family treated her, and many moments where I just wanted to reach into the book and slap them. But I liked that the book had me reacting that strongly to the characters. It had me fully captivated by everything going on that much. Especially the mystery surrounding Evangeline's arrest and her crime. I loved the suspense that it added and how the mystery was the thing pushing Evangeline and Chris together.

Honestly there wasn't anything major that I didn't like about the book but as an overall story I felt like it lacked a little something. It kept me intrigued, but also had me searching for more depth from the characters. Sometimes things were maybe just a little too easy to fall into place and that's what had me feeling as if the story was lacking.

Bottom line, this was a easy and quick read that I found enjoyable. I liked Evangeline as our main character and I was definitely cheering her on as the book progressed. It gets a recommend from me and I think anyone that picks this book up will get sucked into it just like I did and hopefully enjoy it as much also.
