Switch Hitter

I knew something was wrong the second she walked in the door tonight; I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was. Same hair color. Same legs. Same face. Except…I look harder. At the small dimple beneath her lip that wasn’t there the last time we went out. And her laugh—that laugh isn’t as loud. This isn’t the girl I’ve gone out with the past few weeks. It’s her twin sister, and they’ve switched places on me. Only I’m not quite ready to let them switch back.

Playmaker

Title: Playmaker
A Breakaway Novel
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Sports Romance
Publisher: Loveswept/Random House
Release Date: February 27, 2018
Blurb

He knows every play in the book. But she’s calling the shots.

I’m Maddox Ledger, all-star winger and the reason the Charlotte Strikers killed it in the playoffs. Yeah, the tabloids like to call me arrogant. A real hothead. All I see is a guy who plays to win. Wreaking havoc on the ice, breaking a few hearts—that’s all just part of the game. And I’m sure as hell not sitting on the bench.

When my teammate asks me to be in his wedding party, I can’t refuse. Lucky for me, the bridesmaid I’m paired with is the definition of eye candy, but she’s so much more than that. Lacey Easton is totally irresistible and she makes me want to be a better man. A glimpse of bare shoulder takes me back to a steamy, two-week Vegas tryst I can’t forget. One I’m eager to repeat.

Suddenly our one-night stand is turning into the sequel. Still, Lacey’s keeping secrets. She doesn’t trust me. And maybe I deserve it. But I know more than she thinks I do and there’s no chance I’m letting her get away—or letting another guy take what is mine. This time, I’m playing for keeps.

With the way the last Breakway book ended I was about ready to beg for Maddox's book. I needed to find out what happened between him and Lacey, and I just knew it was going to be a brilliant tale. And I wasn't wrong!

I fell in love with Maddox so fast in this book. I loved his personality and that he didn't give up on Lacey when she was pushing him away. I actually thought it was really interesting that it was the hero in this story that wanted something more from the relationship; it's not often you see that so I thought it was a great little twist. It also broke my heart a little when Lacey kept pushing him away and wouldn't give him a chance to prove himself, but it always kept me captivated to see how they would turn out.

Overall this is a book I would recommend for any Hockey lovers or just anyone looking for a Hero with a sensitive side. It was intriguing, sexy, and very sweet at time. I would say it could possibly be read as a standalone but a lot of past characters are featured so i would personally recommend reading the previous books first.

Excerpt

“And we’ll be right back,” Maddox announced, grabbing my wrist.
He pulled me away, and I went willingly with him. I glanced back at Braeden and he started toward us, but I shook my head, stopping him midstep. Maddox turned the corner, his eyes burning like fire.
“I thought I could get through this, but I can’t. I’m so fucking tired of the lies. I know who you are, Lacey.”
My heart stopped. I pretended to be stupid. “Of course, you know who I am. Stop being silly. We need to get back to the wedding.”
He stepped closer, caging me against the wall, with his lips so close to mine. “No,” he growled low. “I mean, I know who you are . . . Paige.” Keeping his eyes on mine, he glided a hand down my bare back and reached inside my dress, circling his fingers around my strawberry birthmark. My whole body broke out in chills. “Did you seriously think I wouldn’t recognize you?”
“Took you long enough,” I snapped.
“Oh, I knew who you were right after you left me in Vegas.” My mouth dropped. “Yeah, that’s right, sunshine. A well-paid private investigator can find out anything.”

True to You

True to You
Montana Heat Book 2
Jennifer Ryan
February 27, 2018

A Montana Man risks everything for the woman he loves . . .

Undercover DEA Special Agent Dawson King spent five months in a Montana prison establishing a fake identity to take down a ruthless drug dealer and put him behind bars. Except there’s a wild card . . . the killer’s beloved daughter. Cara Potter may appear to be on the right side of the law, but King has learned the hard way to trust no one—even someone as tantalizing as the coffee shop owner. She’s irresistible . . . but is she also dangerous?

From the moment he enters her life, King makes Cara . . . nervous. The handsome drifter says he wants to get his life together . . . but there is something about him that doesn’t quite ring true. Cara wants to believe in him, yet she holds back despite the way he awakens dormant dreams and leaves her breathless with his sexy smile, steamy kisses, his every touch.

When the explosive truth comes out and she’s betrayed by the ones she loves, Cara must decide—can she trust her heart, or should she listen to her head?

True to You was my first book by Jennifer Ryan and was a great introduction to her writing. Not reading the first book in the series didn't seem to matter, I was never confused at all or feeling lost because of that. Though, I definitely want to go back and read it since I liked this one so much.

The story was actually a little surprising, I wasn't expecting it to have that strong sense of suspense, but I loved that it did. Right away the book opened up with this quiet intensity and from there it never seemed to stop. I was captivated by these character and the way the author's writing made it feel like I was right there with them, living out this story.

Through everything that was going on in the book, the connection that Dawson and Cara shared was still able to shine through that. I really liked that it all blended together so well between them and the cartel part of the story and in the end everything came together and made me love it.

Up In Smoke Blog Tour

Up In Smoke
King Book 8
T.M. Frazier
February 16, 2018

I’m a man without a conscience.
I deal in murder and mayhem.
I’m the best at what I do.
Frankie Helburn is supposed to be an easy job.
A means to flush her father out of hiding.
Simple.
Except there isn’t anything simple about Frankie or the secrets she’s keeping.
She’s stubborn as hell and the sexiest god damn thing I have ever seen, sending dark, dirty animalistic desire coursing through my veins.
She’s cocaine with legs. A f*cking addiction that makes me question things I’ve never questioned before. Want things I’ve never wanted before.
I might have her, but she isn’t mine to keep.
If her father doesn’t show his face, she will be mine.
To KILL.

I honestly don't know what TM Frazier does to make me love these asshole characters so much but whatever powers from Satan she possesses I never want her to lose. Smoke was definitely one of her more rough-around-the-edges Heroes but it's what made me enjoy reading about him so much. I really liked that he never apologized for how he acted, yet in his own way he could actually be sweet sometimes.

"I’m hell on earth. Brimstone and fire. Embers and ashes. I am motherfucking Smoke."

Smoke and Frankie had a very unusual relationship, um I'll just say association. After kidnapping Frankie to draw her father out of hiding that should have been it, kidnapped and kidnappee, nothing else. But Frankie's smart mouth and inability to make this an easy abduction for Smoke draws him into her and has him never wanting to release her.

"I set out to seduce him, but in the process, I'd managed to seduce myself right into his arms."

Frankie was the best heroine to be paired with Smoke. I loved her strength and courage and it really showed through the pages that she wasn't just some scared girl. She fought back and that's what took this book from being just a creepy guy holding a girl hostage to a hot as hell devil bringing out the wickedness in his captive.

Overall, this is a hugely recommended read that is perfect for those readers that are looking for something a little darker than the usual sunshine and flowers books. It can be read as a standalone without spoilers but will have you itching to go back and read about some of the other characters.

Excerpt

Leaning on the bleachers, Chris cracked peanuts between his teeth and spit the shells. I hadn’t seen him in days and it seemed like years. Every time I saw the kick of his hips and the way his lips stretched across his teeth when he smiled, it seemed like the first time.

I watched him.

He watched me.

School started the next day. We’d go back into our different worlds. Would we meet again? Would we see each other at all? We’d grappled with the question by avoiding it. A waft of smoke from the grills came between us.

We were alone. Surrounded by people, we were alone.

He pitched his peanut bag in the trash and washed it back with a bottle of off-brand cola. When he finished, he sucked in his bottom lip to catch an errant drop.

He tossed the bottle up. It spun in the air, and with a tap of his knuckle on its way down, he sent it into the trash.

I stepped toward him, and he stepped back. Not away. He stepped back toward something, flicking his finger that I should follow.

Easiest decision I’d ever made. It was barely even a decision.

I glanced around for Mom and Dad. They were in the gazebo with Badger, the new mayor, and his staff. Harper and the kids played with the puppies while Johnny and his wife watched. Lance jaunted around the perimeter, peeing on poles whenever he could, nipping back any sibling who got too big for their britches, ever the alpha. I tilted directions slightly toward the bathrooms, then once past the bleachers, I saw Chris peeking from an alley between the hardware store and the library. I picked up my skirt and ran toward him, cutting the corner so hard I lost my balance. Out of nowhere, his hand was on my arm, keeping me from falling over.

Finger to lips, he led me to a black iron door. He clinked through his keys and opened it, stepping out of the way so I could pass through. We were in an office.

He closed the door with a loud clap, leaving the window as the only light.

“Chris?”

I barely got out the S before his lips kissed his name away. He put his hands on my jaw, keeping it still so he could invade my mouth. It felt good to give it to him. My body lost all its strength, held up only by the electrical currents between us.

“Catherine,” he said in a breath, keeping his lips an inch from my face as he spoke.

“Where are we?”

“Back of the hardware store. I open on Thursdays.”

“What are we going to do? I’m scared.”

“Of me?”

“Of not seeing you anymore.”

“I’ll find you.”

I clutched his shirt as if I’d be swept away without him. “I don’t fit in anywhere. Harper is so smart she tolerates me. The only time I feel right, like I’m part of something, like I belong, is when I’m with you.”

“One more year. Then you can go to college and I’ll come after. We’ll be so far away, we’ll forget our names. When people ask where we’re from, we won’t even know.”

“I don’t know if we’ll make it a year. I feel like they see us. Even now.”

I must have been shaking, because he put his arms around me so tightly it hurt. I loved the pain of his attention. It was the pain of safety, of care, of being broken just enough for release.

“Harder,” I said into his shoulder.

He squeezed me so tightly I could just barely breathe, and the tension rolled off me like water.

He let his arms go slack enough to look me in the face. “We’ll make it. Then I’ll follow you anywhere. I’ll be your puppy dog.”

“Oh, Chris, don’t be silly.”

“Don’t deny me. I’m yours.” He said the last word with a gusto I’d never associated with myself. As if life was something to grab with both hands and free like a bird that could carry us into the sky.

Together, we were freedom.

The bird launched from my chest and flew to my lips when we kissed again. Not a kiss of relief this time, but a kiss of passion. Ours was a kiss that began a string of thoughtless acts.

His hands slid down my body, grazing my breasts, landing at my waist. I felt the hardness under his jeans. I should have been scared, or freaked out, or ashamed, but I wasn’t. I was free.

He broke the kiss and stroked my bottom lip with his thumb. “Should we go back?”

“No.” I took his wrist and put his hand on the triangle below my belly. He gasped and his lashes fluttered. Seeing that he liked it sent my body to the edge of common sense. This was crazy and I didn’t care. Being the good girl hurt, and this felt good.

“My parents have to stay at the barbecue,” I said. “That’s their job.”

He hesitated. Swallowed hard. Pinched a bit of my skirt fabric.

I nodded.

Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. Jacob's Ladder: Gabe

As the lead songwriter for Jacob’s Ladder, the last thing Gabe Renard needs is a debilitating case of writer’s block. After years of meaningless one night stands, he's finding it hard to pen the love-filled ballads the label is requesting. In an effort to clear his mind, Gabe takes his jeep off-roading in the North Georgia Mountains. When a wrong-turn leads to him getting stuck more than just creatively, he’s forced to call for help. To his surprise, the “Ray” who has been sent by Hart Wreckers to his aid is actually “Rae”—a sexy-as-hell spitfire in a pair of tight-as-hell jeans. The combination of Rae’s sassy mouth and rocking body might be the inspiration Gabe needs. But for the first time since becoming a rock star, his advances have been shot down.

Reagan Hart has never been a fan of musicians. In fact, just the mention of one might cause her to throw a tire tool. Her disgust for them started when she was just eight and her mother ran off with a traveling country singer, and it only worsened when at seventeen, her rocker boyfriend knocked her up before blowing out of town. As a single mother taking care of her family's collision business, Rae doesn't have time for hook ups, much less a relationship. And if she did make time, a musician would be last on her list, even one as good-looking as Gabe Renard.

Can Gabe find the words to prove not only to Rae, but himself, that she’s the only one for him?

I've been really looking forward to read more of the Jacobs Ladder boys. After getting a bit of them in the Runaway Train series I was really looking forward to more. This book did not disappoint. I really liked that the Renard Twins are total different. Gabe is shy and quiet where Eli is just funny and out going. Gabe isn't short of female attention but he seems to think the the woman would like Eli more. So far I don't I really like Gabe. But everything that he said he didn't like it do by the end he did. This is what happens when met Rae. She really understood him and knew where is his head was at. Plus Gabe really needed her she seem to help him open up. He was dealing with writer block which he really wasn't dealing will with. But even spending a short amount of time with her seem to have words flooding in head. They didn't have a great first met but Gabe wasn't going to let her go.

Rae is a great woman things haven't been easy for her and her family. But she deals with them, she might not deal with them in a good way sometime but she tries. Rae as been hurt to many time and it all seems to involve music. So you can imagine her thoughts about Gabe. The only thing was that Gabe had set spark of that she had buried deep inside. So she wasn't prepared for what he had planned for her and she needed to protect herself and other.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm a big fan of the author Runaway Train series is one of my favourite. So I knew this was going to be good. The story was good and very hot in parts. Rae and Gabe were so good together they both understood each other. Even when she was pushing him away he wouldn't let her. Once she finally let Gabe in they were inseparable. They were such a great couple and smoking hot together. I m really looking forward to more of this series I just know Eli's book is going to be good. I would highly recommend this book I couldn't get enough of it once I started it. Gabe is just amazing.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR BOOK 2

Excerpt

I sighed, hugging the pillow closer and waiting with baited breath for him to come back to bed.
It was Sunday and I didn’t have to work today, so I kind of hoped he’d do that thing with his tongue again.
My body quivered and I bit my lower lip.
He sat on the edge of the mattress and without a single glance my way, he said, “Pet, I have shit to do.”
I tensed.
Then the daisy heads snapped off and the velvet petals shrivelled up in my belly.
Uh, what?
Suddenly, that hot raspy Irish accent didn’t sound so hot.
Okay, I wasn’t expecting a proposal or anything, not by a long shot, but I did expect a morning kiss and a possible number exchange for a possible second date. Or rather first date.
He didn’t even pretend like he’d call.
God, was I that naïve?
I sat up, taking the sheet with me. “Excuse me?”
He bent, picked up his cargo pants from the floor and tugged them on.
“I have shit to do, babe. I called a cab. It’ll be here any second.”
My heart slammed into my chest. He called me a cab? Was I supposed to think this was okay because he called me a cab?
Because it wasn’t. It totally wasn’t.
There was a brief honk outside.
Oh. My. God. When did he call me a cab? When he had his finger in my ass.

Heart Stronger

Heart Stronger
Rachel Blaufeld
February 19, 2018

Single mom and college professor Claire Richards only wanted a few hours of me time to soak in her tub, read a book, and drink wine.

But tragedy struck, and Claire found herself with a lot more me time than she bargained for.

Three years later, Claire is still mourning her losses when Aiken Fordham—who looks young enough to be one of her college students—moves in next door.

Forcing Claire to face her fears, Aiken almost forgets his reason for moving to Small Town, Pennsylvania. Falling for the sexy, smart, and strong professor next door was never in the plan.

But now it is… until their future intersects with their pasts.

I thought this book was great. I luvd Aiken so much he is so caring patient and sexy. He was just brilliant throughout this whole book. The attraction he had with Claire was instant. Once he knew Claire's story he knew he had a tough job getting close to this gorgeous woman. He didn't know what was goin on he moved next door to Claire and had a job to do. But this woman was the only thing he could think of. Aiken had plans he just didn't think he would end up wanting Claire so much she wasn't part of his plan.

Claire has had a tough few years. She has had to deal with so much my heart goes out to her. She has buried herself in her work and had closed off her heart a long time ago. So Aiken paying her attention wasn't something she needed, well that's what she thought. Work her best friend Mary and her dog Smitty were her life that was all she needed. But the young man ended up worming his way into her life. Once her walls started coming down she did start to enjoy herself again. But her confidence has took a big hit and she didn't know if being with a younger guy was the right thing for her. Even though Aiken only had eyes for her.

I enjoyed this book but I did find Claire a lil annoyed me a lil in parts. Its killing me to say this cause she has been through so much and I did like her and I understand why she isn't as confident as she should be. But she has this totally gorgeous young guy throwing himself at her. I just wanted her to enjoy herself and go with it. She has been through so much and my heart broke for her. I do think she is a strong woman I don't think I could deal with what she did.

Overall the story was good it had me so sad in parts and had my laughing in others. The character were good and I m going to say again I luv Aiken. The ending as me wondering what's going to happen next so I m looking forward to that.

El Santo

.

El Santo
Saint-Sinner Book 1
M. Robinson

I didn’t know darkness and evil lurked inside me until I had to murder in order to survive. Forced to become my own worst enemy. With so much blood on my hands, I was surprised I could still see my own skin.
I killed.
I tortured.
I loved…
I played God while I was rotting in Hell. Thriving on control and power was the only way I knew how to live. There were no other options.
If you weren’t my friend, you were my foe.
If you weren’t with me, you were against me.
Traitors, as I called them. There were no imaginary lines. I’d crossed them all. No boundaries. No second chances. No redemption.
Not for me.
For them.
For anyone.
Only for her…
She loved me. Always convinced I was a saint, never believing I was just another sinner.
A fucking monster.

With an I only reading this book now. It is so good Damien had me all over the place I luvd him one min then hated him the next. Which just made me luv him. Ye I m confused with my feelings for him to. He goes through so many emotions in this book. Even when he is being horrible he is actually doing something good. I feel so sorry for him he can't have the girls he luvd cause he needs to protect her. But the bond him and Amira have is just to strong. He has been there for her when she didn't have anything left. Ye she could of blamed him for everything. But she saw who Damien really was. Ye there were a lot of sides to him and she could deal with them he just would let her in. He needed to protect from the monsters and his self. My heart broke for Amira throughout this whole book. Her life was turned upside down and the only person she could trust was Damien. But all he kept doing was hurting her. Her luv was so strong him she couldn't stay away from him even when he totally broke her heart.

This story was so good. I was hooked from the start and after that ending I need the next book now. Damien and Amira's story is far from perfect, It's actually a mess. But when a bond is so strong like theirs is it takes a lot to break. Even though Damien did do a pretty good job at breaking Amira. I luv her character. She is strong sweet sassy and just luvs so hard considering what she went through. Damien was her everything and he was always there for her until he wasn't.

I would highly recommend this book. I m really looking forward to reading more of this author. This is only the second book I've read from her but I know it won't be the last one. This was intense heart breaking hot and forbidden love.
