Macon and Dakota had a complicated relationship and connection which was made impossible to ignore since they were constantly being thrown together by their friends and family. Macon was still dealing with the attack that left him with nightmares while Dakota still felt like she was living her nightmare and had a hard time trusting people.
I liked that they didn't fall into a relationship really easily though and we got to see them both grow as characters and have a gradual connection that grew stronger with each passing page. It was captivating to read and try to find out when they would finally give in to each other and it definitely kept me interested the entire time reading.
Overall, the characters were very easy to like, the story was intriguing and had a nice pace to it, and its a book I would definitely recommend. I do think it could be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the series in order to truly get to know all the characters and how they became such a close group.
