Dear Letter Girl, I need to see you. When can we meet?

Her response never came. My secret pen pal with a dirty mind has ghosted me. I've roped Jules, my sweet as pie next door neighbor, to help me track her down.

There's only one problem—I'm falling for her. The tortoise shell glasses, out of this world curves and delicious treats are making the search for The Letter Girl even harder.

My notes were supposed to be a one time thing. A little too much wine and naughty thoughts on a winter's night. I never thought Berk would write back. I wanted to tell him it was me, but the fear of rejection kept my lips sealed.

Now he’s enlisted my help to track down The Letter Girl and our search has him hot on my, ahem, her trail.

She's the girl next door.

He's my secret pen pal.

Truth is on a collision course with their hearts and it’s only a matter of time before one of them gets wrecked...

Berk was seriously the cutest and I want him all for myself now. I'm calling dibs! He and Jule's had me ready to beg for their story by the time I finished The Second We Met and it ended up being an even better book than I was imagining. Jules and Berk both had issues that were keeping them away from each other and relationships in general, and there were times that I wanted to slap both of them and make them get their shit together and see that they were amazing together. But getting to see them work through it slowly was so good and brought so much sweetness to the book so I can't even be mad at them.

Seeing Berk bring Jules out of her shell some had me smiling so much and I loved that it wasn't even on purpose. He was just himself and honest with her about how amazing she was, which was exactly what Jules needed. And himself actually. He needed someone like Jules who wouldn't abandon him and would put him first sometimes. They both had some strong emotional moments that I loved and they brought me a lot closer to each of them and truly had me connect with them.

Overall, this is a brilliant NA romance and I highly recommend reading it. I think it can be read as a standalone with no problem but I would suggest at least reading the previous book first so that you can get the true connection between Berk and Jules.

Heartland

HEARTLAND BY SARINA BOWEN
A standalone romance in the USA Today best-selling True North world.
January 28, 2020

An emotional friends to lovers romance full of risky secrets and late-night lessons in seduction.

Dylan is my best friend, and the only person in my life who understands me. He doesn’t mind my social awkwardness or my weird history. The only glitch? He doesn’t know that I’ve been hopelessly, desperately in love with him since the first day we picked apples together in his family’s orchard.
But I know better than to confess.
Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me.
Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra…and he actually says yes.
But the cool morning light shows me how badly I’ve endangered our friendship. And I don’t know if anything will be the same again.

EXCERPT

“So why were you having a bad day, anyway?” Ellie asks. “Man trouble?”
“Not exactly. It’s more like a lack of man trouble. I kissed my hot algebra tutor. And I wasn’t supposed to.”
Her big eyes widen. “Which hot algebra tutor? You never said.”
“He doesn’t work at the lab,” I say hastily. “He’s a friend. And he wants to stay that way.”
“Oh.” She looks deflated. “That is a bummer.”
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
“No.” She makes a face. “It would be nice, though. This year is kind of lonely. My roommate is a total bitch.”
“Oh, I have one of those, too.”
“Yeah?” Ellie’s eyes brighten. “Does yours steal your clothes and then lie about it?”
“Um, no. She wouldn’t want any of my things. We have singles, anyway. Just a common bathroom.”
“Lucky! She must be easier to stand, then.”
“You’d think.” I take a gulp of mint tea.
“My roommate took my brand-new scarf. With the tags still on! And when I called her out on it, she tried to gaslight me.”
“Gaslight?” I feel my cheeks flush like they sometimes do when I don’t understand the idioms that people use.
“You don’t know Gaslight? It’s a movie from the forties.”
“Ingrid Bergman,” says Dylan’s voice. “We haven’t got around to the classics yet.”
I startle, sloshing my tea over my hand. And when I look up, Dylan is right there. Clear brown eyes. Tousled hair. Tight, muscular body that’s clothed in a nice sweater and ripped jeans. A handsome face that I finally kissed.
Pain slices through me. Because I’m never going to get over him. There will never be a day when I look at Dylan and don’t wish for more.
“Can I talk to you for a quick second?” he asks, taking the mug and grabbing a napkin off the table. He wipes the tea off my hand.
“Now is not a good time,” I say quickly. Because I don’t want to cry in the coffee shop in front of my only new friend.
Dylan actually rolls his eyes. “Fifteen seconds, Chass. Give a man a break.”
“I’d talk to you.” Ellie raises her hand like a school girl. “Pick me.”
And that’s just what I need—another girl in my life who’s swooning for Dylan. Because that always turns out well.
“Fine. Fifteen seconds.” I jump to my feet. Let’s get this over with.
Dylan takes my arm and tows me gently over toward the bulletin board, where nobody is currently reading the flyers for meditation circles and ski equipment sales.
“Look, I’m sorry,” is his opener. “You're avoiding me. Not that I blame you. I'm sorry things got so out of control.”
“Which things?” I ask warily. Because I don’t want an apology for fooling around with me.
“Pick one!” Dylan raises his hands. “All the things. I shouldn’t have been so inappropriate.”
“But…” I know Dylan was in a serious state of drunken depression when he kissed me. It’s not like I was expecting to hear those kisses made him as happy as they made me. But would it kill him to be a little less patronizing? “Dylan, I’m not twelve years old. It was just a kiss or two. I don’t think I’ll need a full course of therapy to recover.”
He blinks. “Okay. Good?”
“So did you really need to drag me over here to apologize a third time? Did you apologize to all the girls you kissed during Spin the Bottle in seventh grade?”
I heard about Spin the Bottle and Seven Minutes in Heaven only last year, by eavesdropping on Debbie and her buddies at another bonfire. I’d been transfixed by their tales of who’d kissed whom over the years and how often.
At thirteen, Spin the Bottle would have sounded like heaven to me. Seven minutes in a closet with a boy? I would have lobbied for eight. I was always the most inappropriate girl in the bunch.
Yet somehow Dylan sees me as some kind of innocent child.
“No. Good point.” He crosses his delicious arms and smiles at me. “You are in a feisty mood today.”
“Is that so wrong?”
“No.” He shakes his handsome head. “Not at all. Are we going to hug it out?” He opens his big arms wide.
Oh boy. I can’t resist stepping into them. And when he pulls me in, I experience the familiar hormone rush that always happens when I’m close to him. Rapid heartbeat? Check. Goosebumps? Check. My nose lands against his flannel shirt.
My mouth is mere inches from his, of course. But this time he has no interest in kissing me. It takes all my willpower to give him a squeeze and then step back.
“Be well, Chass. I’ll leave you to your tutoring session, even if you’re basically cheating on me right now. But we’re still making caramels this weekend, right? I told Griffin we could use six gallons of goat’s milk. Don’t make a liar out of me.”
“I won’t,” I say quickly. I might be slightly irritated at him, but it will blow over. My capacity to forgive him for not loving me back is basically infinite. “We’ll leave right after Friday classes?”
“You got it. And this is for you. Share it with your friend.” He pulls something out of his pocket. “More market research.”
He puts a little box in my hand and then walks away.
As always, it takes me a second to get over my hormone rush. I stand there blinking for a long moment until I realize Ellie is grinning at me from the sofa. So I go back over to her and sit down.
“Wow…” she says, stealing a glance at Dylan’s retreating backside. “Is that hot hunk of Vermont male your algebra tutor?”
“Yes.” My voice is gravel.
“And your future ex-boyfriend?”
“Nope. I’ll never get that chance. He's my best friend, but...” There's no tidy explanation.
“But you want more. I would if it were me.”
I nod, miserable.

Heartland is a friends to lovers, NA novel following college playboy Dylan, and his sheltered neighbor Chastity. Chastity is still exploring life outside of the religious cult she grew up in and she wants to experience all her new life has to offer her. Including learning all there is about sexuality from none other than the biggest playboy on campus, and her friend, Dylan.

I thought Dylan and Chastity had a cute relationship. Dylan could easily come off as a guy with no worries when he was at school but that was far from the truth. He had a lot on his shoulders from constantly traveling home to help on the farm and getting lectured by his older brother about what he was doing with his life. With Chastity he was so caring and patient with her and I really liked seeing that. Their differences with how experienced he was and how inexperience she was made them the perfect couple. Chastity was still able to teach Dylan a lot about relationships even though she herself hadn't been in one before and I thought that was a really fun thing about them.

I do wish we had less drama in the beginning with Dylan and the girl he was seeing since it came off as more High School type drama that I just don't enjoy a lot. But overall I loved reading this book and getting to know these characters. This is definitely a book I recommend and I would say it could be read as a standalone with little issue.

Dream with Me

Will Kane & Anastasia’s relationship bloom into the romance of a lifetime, or will their dreams of success get in the way of true love?
Dream With Me, an all-new standalone contemporary romance in the beloved With Me In Seattle Series by New York Times Bestselling Author Kristen Proby is LIVE!

Dream With Me FOR WEB.jpg

Kane O’Callaghan knows what it is to have his work shown all over the world. His pieces are on display in palaces and museums, including the O’Callaghan Museum of Glass just outside of his beloved hometown of Seattle. Kane is a bit of a recluse, spending time on his farm alone and committed to his art. His life is full.
Until the day he meets her.
Wandering through museums is Anastasia Montgomery’s favorite way to spend her time. Not only does art feed her soul, but it inspires her own art of designing wedding cakes. When her muse seems to be gone, she finds her again among the beauty in the museums of Seattle, and the O’Callaghan Museum of Glass is her favorite. She’s never met the artist, but he must be absolutely brilliant, if he can make such beautiful things out of glass.
Bumping into a grumpy stranger at the museum wasn’t in Anastasia’s plan. And then discovering it was Kane himself was absolutely humiliating.
But when she sees him again at a charity fundraiser, and ends up spending an incredible, unforgettable night with the mysterious glass smith, Anastasia finds herself thinking of Kane and little else, even her precious work. Will this relationship bloom into the romance of a lifetime, or will their dreams of success get in the way of true love?

Dream With Me follows Anastasia Montgomery and Kane O'Callaghan. Both artists in their own right, Kane is a successful glassblower whose exhibits Anastasia sometimes gets inspiration from for the wedding cakes she designs. After a classic meet cute the two become almost inseparable and have one of the cutest romances Ms. Proby has written.

I will never have enough of the Montgomery's and as far as I'm concerned their series can go on forever. Without fail these characters captivate me from the very beginning of their stories and Kane and Anastasia were no different. I loved the bit of possessiveness that Kane showed when it came to Anastasia, and how quickly they fell into an easy relationship. They were perfect together and it was so fun to read about them having so much love and trust between them.

I love the family dynamic that Ms. Proby always puts into her stories and in this book we got the added bonus of the O'Callaghan family. I'll be crossing my fingers hoping we'll see more of them, but of course there are still more Montgomery's that I'm waiting for.

EXCERPT

Okay, so the man has moves. It shouldn’t surprise me that someone who creates such amazing works of art can also lead a girl around the dance floor. With one palm firmly planted on my lower back, and the other clutching my hand, Kane keeps his eyes on mine.
“You’re a good dancer,” I murmur.
“You’re nervous,” he replies softly. “There’s no need to be. It’s just a dance.”
I take a deep breath and offer him a smile. He’s right. It’s just a dance.
The fact that he’s maybe the hottest man I’ve ever seen is a huge bonus.
And if he can move like this, with all of our clothes on, I can only imagine what it could be like if we were naked.
Mercy.
“I never got your name,” he says and guides me closer to him so we can talk into each other’s ears. I glance around the room, seeing my sister and the other girls smiling at us, watching us dance.
“Anastasia,” I say and turn my head, not quite planting my nose against his neck. The smell of this man is going to kill me.
And not because it triggers my asthma.
Because it’s too sexy.
I watch the pulse in his neck and enjoy the feeling of his strong arms holding me.
“That’s a lovely name.” The accent is thicker in his voice now. Irish? I’m not good with accents, but I’d bet he’s Irish.
His last name might be an indicator.
“Thank you.”
The song ends and flows into another ballad. Adele sings about finding another lover, as Kane moves against me, with me.
I wonder if it looks as sexy as it feels.
“You said yesterday,” he whispers against my ear, “that you’d be using your sketch for something else. What will that something be?”
“A cake.”
He pulls back far enough to smile down at me in surprise. “A cake, is it?”
I nod, more comfortable talking about what I do for a living than just dancing in silence.
“I design and build wedding cakes for a living. I can do them for other occasions, as well, but wedding cakes are what I’m known for.”
“Interesting.”
“I have a client who came into my shop about a month ago to hire me. They didn’t give me any direction at all. No colors, no requests. It just has to feed about two hundred guests.” I shake my head in disgust. “Not that I want them to tell me to copy a photo. I won’t do that, but usually, they have colors they like or flowers in mind. Something. Not these two. When I need inspiration, I like to look at what others have created. Or have conversations with people I enjoy.”
“That makes sense,” he says and leans in to kiss my forehead, which sends a shiver right down my spine to my lady parts—which had already sat up and taken notice of Kane.
“What was that for?” I ask.
“An apology,” he replies. “For being difficult yesterday.”
“Apology accepted.”
His lips quirk into that half-smile, his green eyes shining. The song is almost over, and I know I should thank him for the dance and find Lia and the others.
“Thanks for the dance.”
The last note plays, and I pull back, immediately wishing I was back in his arms.
He’s a stranger, and it’s crazy, but it’s true.
“Do you belong to a man, Anastasia?” Kane brushes his knuckles down the side of my cheek.
I frown. “I’ll never belong to anyone.”
“You know what I mean. Are you taken?”
“I’m single if that’s what you’re asking.”

“Good.” He kisses the back of my hand.

EXCERPT

A giddy laugh bubbled up from deep down. I snuck a glance at myself in the mirror again. I was a lumpy diva, but, fuck it, I was a badass too. And I was slowly skidding closer to the ground as the sweat that gathered behind my knee loosened my grip.

Every move I nailed got me a little closer to appreciating how far I’d come. From the first days of slipping off trying to do a basic spin with my feet planted firmly on the floor, to being a diva.

This was my freaking body and I loved the shit out of it.

And if I kept telling myself that, maybe one day I’d believe it.

I lowered myself onto my bedroom floor with a flourish, throwing in one more spin for my imaginary audience.

The song ended and I braced my hands on my hips, panting and sweating like I’d run a 5k, with a grin so damn wide I felt it in my toes. Jumping up and down, I gave myself a high five and a few club-worthy woos. It made it harder to figure out if I was doing the tricks one hundred percent correctly, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to record myself to watch later or head to a pole dancing studio with full-wall mirrors. I wasn’t at that level of okay with me in all my glory—yet.

I flopped onto my bed and stared up at the ceiling. My hip-hugging short shorts and sports bra gave me little coverage, but pole dancing wasn’t exactly about modesty. I’d given it a try at the urging of my therapist during freshman year and hell if it hadn’t helped—some. It was a way for me to build strength, body confidence, and maybe attempt to feel a little sexy.

The door slammed downstairs and I shot up from the bed.

“Jules!” Berk’s unmistakable call sent me from pole dancing heart racing to ‘floor it, Louise,’ careening toward a cliff. I shot up and fell off my bed, rattling the perfume bottles on my dresser. Scrambling off the floor, I grabbed my sweatpants and tugged them on, hopping from foot to foot and sounding like I’d taken up bowling in my bedroom. I snagged my glasses off my desk and shoved them onto my face.

Berk was probably wondering how I’d trapped a wild animal up in my room. I grabbed my long sleeved T-shirt and hoodie off the back of my chair even though it was August. The fabric clung to my sweaty skin and I probably had a sweat-stashe going on, but that was better than him walking up here and finding me half naked. A panic spiral shot through me and I got dressed even quicker and threw open my door.

My feet barely touched any of the steps as I flew downstairs.

“Berk.” I fell into the kitchen, bracing my arm against the doorway. The butterflies in my stomach were replaced by a whole freaking safari. I tightened my lips to what I hoped was a non-serial killer level of smile. My heart was glowing like a spotlight, so I wrapped my arms tighter around myself. Tingles tiptoed up and down my spine at the sight of his floppy hair and jeans that hugged his ass and trim waist better than mine ever fit me.

His head shot up and the half of the cookie sticking out of his mouth broke off and dropped onto the counter. “There you are.” His words were muffled behind two manhole cover-sized cookies.

“Did you think I was hiding in my cookie box?”

“Is that what you’re calling it these days?” Killer smile and a direct hit. “The old cookie box.”

Hero needs to marry and/or have baby in order to get an inheritance. It's been done before, many times. But L.K Farlow was able to put her own spin on the storyline and delivered us an adorable story that had me intrigued from start to finish. West Larson needs to produce an heir in order to get his inheritance, no marriage required. Enter Stacia Kellan, who's already down on her luck and going through a tough financial time. She's also the woman West had a very hot make out session with that he can't get off of his mind. So she's perfect for him..except she wants nothing to do with his proposition.

West's character was a really nice blend of a mid-twenties playboy type but that was also mature and had good business sense. I liked that about him and it actually surprised me how grown up he acted since I wasn't expecting that. The same goes for Stacia. I love when characters in their twenties aren't acting super immature or like they have no worries besides deciding which party to go to next. So Ms. Farlow gets extra points in my mind for that.

Overall, I thought this was a great arranged-relationship type of story and I liked the little twists that were put into. Stacia and West kept the story interesting and I thought they made the perfect couple.
