Romantic Suspense Rec

Race the Darkness
Abbie Roads
October 4, 2016

First in a gripping paranormal romantic suspense duo by a Golden Heart finalist debut author whose clinical work gives her chilling insights...

Cursed with a terrible gift...

Criminal investigator Xander Stone doesn't have to question you—he can hear your thoughts. Scarred by lightning, burdened with a power that gives him no peace, Xander struggles to maintain his sanity against the voice that haunts him day and night—the voice of a woman begging him to save her.

A gift that threatens to engulf them...

Isleen Walker has long since given up hope of escape from the nightmare of captivity and torture that is draining her life, her mind, and her soul. Except...there is the man in her feverish dreams, the strangely beautiful man who beckons her to freedom and wholeness. And when he comes, if he comes, it will take all their combined fury and faith to overcome a madman bent on fulfilling a deadly prophecy.

Race the Darkness is the quintessential Romantic Suspense book. It has the romance, the intriguing plot, and the ability to keep me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. But not only that, Abbie Roads' style of writing was brilliant and sucked me into this story with little effort. Having a great plot isn't the only thing a great book needs, it needs to be told in such a way that it will keep the reader interested and allow them to experience the book, not just read it.

Well move over world because Ms. Roads has the ability to write like that and she's about to take over the Romantic Suspense genre. She may be a new author but you would never guess that from reading this book. She's come into the author world and completely rocked it's very foundation, leaving no doubt in my mind that she's going to be around for many years, creating stories that will inspire other authors and make them want to be as great as her.

I'll finish my author fangirling now and move on to the story.
This book was like a dark fairy tale that I absolutely adored. Through the twists and turns that the story took you on there was a lot of romance involved with Xander and Isleen, and I really liked that the connection between them never got lost between the mystery unfolding. There are many romantic suspense novels that are more like thrillers because there's no romance, and it's one of the reasons I took a long break from the genre. Well that is definitely not a problem with this story and the romance was mixed perfectly with the suspense.

The connection that Xander and Isleen shared was very prominent and there was never a doubt in my mind that they belonged together. I say it was like a fairy tale because honestly even with all the bad things happening during this book I somehow still felt like a little kid again, reading about destiny bringing two people together like Cinderella and her Prince Charming. Except this was a more adult version with a brooding Hero that I wanted to lick all over.

Was Xander a bit of an asshole? Yup! But I loved him for it and I especially loved him for never apologizing for his personality. He just went with it and never tried to change for people which I thought was great. And Isleen was just as amazing. I liked her strength and how, even after going through something so tragic, she was able fight and didn't just give up.

With addition of the mystery surrounding Isleen's abduction there was no way this book could be less than five stars from me. Which honestly doesn't happen that much and definitely not for a romantic suspense book. But everything just came together so well and was never not boring or too much for one book that I couldn't help but love it.

Bottom line, read this book. If you're a fan of romantic suspense or if you aren't read this book. It's that good that I am urging everyone to give it a chance because I think it's going to be wildly popular. The suspense is well done, the romance is a mix of adorable and sexy, and the characters are amazing. So seriously, read this book!

The One Real Thing by Samantha Young

Welcome to Hartwell, a quiet seaside escape where uncovering old secrets could lead one woman to discover the meaning of a love that lasts…

While Doctor Jessica Huntington engages with the inmates at the women’s correctional facility where she works, she’s always careful to avoid emotional attachments in her personal life. Loss and betrayal taught her that lesson long ago. But when she comes across a set of old love letters in the prison’s library and visits the picturesque town of Hartwell to deliver them to their intended recipient, she finds herself unable to resist the town’s charm—and her attraction to the sexy owner of a local bar proves equally hard to deny.

Since his divorce from his unfaithful ex-wife, Cooper Lawson has focused on what really matters: his family and the boardwalk pub they’ve owned for generations. But the first time Jessica steps into his bar, Cooper is beyond tempted to risk his heart on her. Yet as their attraction grows hotter and Jessica remains stubbornly closed off, he begins to realize it will take more than just passion to convince her there’s only one real thing in life worth fighting for.

I've read On Dublin Street years ago an I've loved everything that this author as done since so I was really dying for this book I got sucked into this straight away an I couldn't get enough the story it was great as was the characters I just know this series is going to b as good as On Dublin Street series

I loved Jessica's character she is so caring an kind an would do anything for anyone but she as been through something horrible she as built her walls so high its even hard for her to see over them she doesn't do relationships she as a fuck buddy that she as been with on an off an it works for her she's a doctor an very good at her job she now works as a doctor in a woman's prison an it ok she enjoys it but there is something missing in her life an when she finds some letters from an inmate in a book that was written years an years ago to the love of her life but she never got to send them an Jessica had to give these letters to this person she just seemed to get some sort of connection to these letters an she was going to do something about it so she took a vacation to Hartwell an this is whee her life was going to change when she meet the must sexiest man ever Cooper Lawson an boy is he sexy

Cooper as had to deal with a lot of crap in his life as well but life is going ok at the min but it just got a,whole lot better when he bumped into the beautiful Jessica like I said he as been through crappy stuff a divorce losing his mum and best friend so meet Jessica is the best thing but he had to work for it the one thing that worked for him was that he was loved by everyone in the small town of Hartwell an he does break down a bit of Jessica's wall but it's not enough they r so made for each other an work so well but there r some horrible people in Hartwell that well do anything to make it hard for these people an they have the good doctor an Cooper in there sights bastards

This story was just brilliant I didn't think the author could creates a better character then Braden Carmichael he is the most sexiest man ever but omg I think Cooper Lawson is amazing I luvd him straight away he is so sexy an the way he was with Jessica just amazing they were so good together but I enjoyed al the characters in this book an it's just made me want more I love Bailey's character she is so bubbly and her an Jessica r so funny at times but god she can b fiery at time an will kick ass if she as to I can't wait for her book I just know it's going to b great an after the lil teaser we got at the end of this book I just know it's going to be great why do I have to wait till March it's going to kill me

I highly recommend this book it full of everything if u liked On Dublin Street series then u will luv this an if u haven't read it seriously why not it's amazing xxx

The One Real Thing is Samantha Young's debut into a new series focused around a quiet seaside town in Delaware. The story follows Dr. Jessica Huntington to the town in hopes of giving truth to a man who has been without it for too long. Jessica works as a Doctor for prison inmates and while working she finds a series of letters from a past inmate who has passed away. Reading the letters, she learns the tragic past of the inmate and her one true love, and her heart breaks for the couple. She decides that the man needs to know what really happened, and is saddened that these letters were never sent to him. So she uses her vacation to go the small town of Hartwell and personally deliver the letters.

But Hartwell isn't just a tourist town, it's a town with a romantic history, and it's said that if you're destined to meet your own true love, it will happen on the boardwalk. For Jessica her world changes once she arrives in Hartwell and meets it's residents, making friends with almost everyone she comes across. And then there's Cooper, the bar owner with a chip on his shoulder about relationships. He wanted nothing to do with another relationship, not with the way his marriage ended, but Cooper just can't seem to get the sexy Doctor off of his mind and he's determined to make her give him a chance.

This story was equal amounts of sexy and sweet, and I loved the mix of emotions that was involved in it. There are many small town romances out there and it's something that I've read over and over again, so honestly it takes something extra special now for me to actually love it and not just enjoy it some. Well Ms. Young definitely put that extra dose of special into this story and I loved every minute of it. I can't even point one one reason why I liked it so much, it was just everything. The characters, the small town charm, the sexiness thrown in, even the bit of thrill brought on with the towns douche-bags. I just loved all of it!

Cooper, though, he was a big reason why I liked this book so much. He may have been burned in the past, and that certainly held him back some, but he never let his past hurts keep him from finding a future. The way he went after Jessica and made her realize that life had so much more to offer than just being content was swoon worthy. I already want to re-read this book just for him.

Overall, this book was amazing and something I will strongly recommend. The mix of characters kept me intrigued and I already can't wait for the next book to see what's going to happen with town and people.

Christmas Comes to Main Street

Title: Christmas Comes to Main Street
Author: Olivia Miles
Publisher: Forever Romance

The mistletoe is out, and the gloves are off . . .
'Tis the worst season to be single, but Kara Hastings won't let a little Christmas funk spoil the festive season. Sure, running her own bakery is a little harder than she expected, but she can handle it. And she'll prove it to a certain infuriatingly handsome, bossy Big City guy. She may be sugar and spice, but she can kick his butt twice.

Nate Griffin is in Briar Creek only for the holidays, and he refuses to fall for the whole "small town, candy cane-scented Christmas Wonderland" thing. He's more interested in the fresh-faced cookie chef who always knows exactly how to get under his skin. So when Nate challenges Kara in the town's big holiday contest, it's not just the competition that starts to heat up. If he's not careful, Kara won't just melt his icy resolve against a small-town Christmas . . . she'll melt his heart too.

Full disclosure, I am not a Christmas person. I hate the stupid songs that play incessantly on the radio, the decorations that 88% of the time look ridiculous, and of course I dread the family dinners. But while reading this book I was in such a Christmas mood and just had a genuinly happy time learning all about these characters. You're probably asking yourself why I even read a holiday book if I don't like the holiday's but I fell in love with this town and didn't want to miss out on Kara finding her happiness.

I loved that her character changed for the better and started to stand up to her family more than she did before. I was a little worried that she would continue letting them control her life and do whatever they wanted her to, but that wasn't the case. It took some time but she became a pretty tough woman by the end of this book and I really enjoyed seeing her get more confidence in not only herself, but her bakery that was her biggest dream.

I adored Nate and thought he and Kara were the perfect couple. I just knew that there two different personalities was going to make for some interesting times, and I was right. He wasn't in the holiday spirit as much as Kara and the rest of the town was but he still brought a lot of cheeriness to the story that I enjoyed.

Overall, I highly recommend this book and the series. If I, a self-proclaimed Christmas hater, can get in the holiday spirit while reading this book, then it can cheer up anyone that reads it. I already can't wait to see what the author has in store for us with this town but I know it's going to be something great.

Blurb

Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

I really really enjoyed this book but it had me heartbroken through out the whole thing my heart went out Maggie so much she was such a sassy lil girl I luvd her personality an the way she would talk to Brooks was so funny technology him what to do an how there life was goin to big just luv her but then she had the lil spark and sass she had taken away an it was horrible but she alway had her family an Brooks they were who she needed more more as she grow up life wasn't goin to b easy for her after seeing what she saw

Brooks was such a great guy an I think I fell in luv with him through this book he was alway there for Maggie when she needed him an he was still when she needed time to herself he helped her believe that she could have a life after what she as been through an that her dreams could come true no matter what stood in her way it was great reading this book an seeing them grow up to b a strong men even when he had to go through his own nightmares

I have to say I had to have the tissues at the ready for this book my heart went out to Maggie so much she had to deal with listen to people say mean things an even her family say some mean things to I couldn't stand her mama at times in this book an even her sister had me angry at times she was goin through enough she didn't need other people hurting her they just didn't understand the only people that did was Brooks and her Dad I luvd how the author wrote this book she did it so well there wasn't a part that I did enjoy even the heart breaking parts that had me ugly crying :)

I couldn't recommend this book enough it had everything in it I just luvd the main characters they had me fall in luv with them straight away an once I started this book I could stop I just had to know what was goin to happen an I wasn't disappointed it was just perfect I can't wait for more from this author and series its been a excellent series xxx

This book quickly became my favorite by Brittainy C. Cherry and I just want to forget all about reading it so that I can read it again and experience it all as if it's the first time. It's definitely the kind of book that will stick with me for years to come.

Brittainy wrote this story in such a way that it was as if she was speaking directly to me and telling me this beautifully heartbreaking story. This book was extra special from her and it honestly felt like she had somehow found out my deepest thoughts and put them into this story. Sounds crazy, but I honestly thinks that's how most people will feel once they read this.

I easily immersed myself into the world of Maggie and Brooks, and silence. You know when you read a book and the characters emotions become yours, and it's like you become them. That's how this book was for me. I didn't speak the entire time I was reading it, I didn't even listen to music which is a big deal because I have music playing at every possible second. I just read this incredible story of hurt, and loss, and guilt, and fear and felt everything along with these characters. I don't even think I have the words to describe how much I loved the journey Brooks and Maggie took me on honestly.

Brooks and Maggie had the kind of love that lasted through the pain, the tears, and the the moment that defines us all. I'm not talking about the happiest day of your life. I'm talking about the worst one, the day that broke us as humans, tore us apart and laughed in our face when we tried to put ourselves back together. That is the moment that will define you based on how you react to it. Brooks and Maggie had their moments years apart, and they both reacted differently to them, but the thing that didn't change was that they were there for one another. That is what made them the perfect couple.

I wanted to give this book five stars, I really really did. But there were parts in the beginning that had a little too much immaturity for me and it got to be a tad annoying, which is where the .5 got taken from my 5 star rating. Even with those times, though, I never stopped loving the characters.

I could probably go on and rant for even longer than I already have, but I'll stop here and just let you know that this is not a book you want to miss out on. It's something special and it needs to be read.

This book is a lot different to the books that the author normally writes but I really hope she stays on this mafia thing I've enjoyed everything about this book well bar the ending she as never done a cliffhanger like never an she as just killed with this one I need that book like now

As u can tell I totally luvd this book the book is basically about the mistress of a mafia boss an well him as well Julietta is a sassy fun lovin woman she's a nurse an enjoys what's she does life is ok she as a great family an best friend an when they r together they alway have a great time she flirts with men an drinks cosmos what more could u want until one nite she goes to a mafia ran nite club she was told to stay away but she was goin input to dance an have a great time with her bestie but she ends up meetin the very sexy Rafael he as a very domineering presents about him but she can't seem to take her eyes of him an after him helping her get out a sticky situation it makes him even more appealing but she doesn't know who Rafael is an when she finds out she's not very happy

I don't really want to go into this story to much cause it's should a great one there r twists thrown in al over the place but I luv the way Julietta is with Rafael she doesn't stand for his alpha ways she stands up to him an no other woman as ever done that before an this just make them both want each other even more no matter how hard they try to stop it but things r never that easy an the ending in this book just shows that

I highly recommend this book I m a huge fan of this author an this book is just great I couldn't get enough I read it in a day I couldn't put it down I was dyin to know what was goin to happen an I was shocked in a few parts but it just made the story so good bring on the next book xxx

Bella Jewel wrote the untold story that we all need to hear. This book isn't just the typical mafia book with a badass Hero and a heroine that matches his every need, turning into a love story. No, this is the heartbreaking story of the other women, the one we always hate and want to shame. It's not pretty, and it's not nice, but it's real.

Amore wasn't an easy book to read because it brings up a lot of moral questions and makes you really think about whats going on. I thought it was great that this book was finally written, even if it's not one I ever thought I would read or even have a desire to read. But by the end of it I understood why Julietta's story was necessary and I liked how most of it was handled so I'm happy I took a chance on it.

Julietta was just a normal girl until the night she met Rafael Lencioni. That night changed her life and changed her as a person, which that was very clear in this story. I liked that her change wasn't an unexpected one, and it wasn't abrupt. We got to see her emotions playing out and how her situation made her into a different person. There are times characters have random, very sudden personality changes, but that wasn't the situation in this book so I was thankful for that since it made everything real.

With that being said, she was also a difficult character to like at some parts. Her emotions were very real and her actions were understandable at most parts. But there were still a few moments that really changed my opinion about her and made me mad to see a woman not standing up for herself. She can't be described as a tough heroine, which is fine because even though that's what I prefer in my books, it's not always the case.. Yet at the same time, it kills me to see someone bow down to another person and just take their shit. That was my main problem with the story and the reason for my 3.5 rating. I just couldn't handle some of the things that she did for her "love" of Rafael. There are a lot of things that happen in books that I'm okay with even though in real life I wouldn't be. But this is one of those things that I'm not okay with no matter where it's happening.

I still liked Rafael as a Hero, even when he was being a giant asshole. Not because of a double standard or anything like that but because I loved to hate him. Is he book boyfriend material for me? Not at all. But i loved his character because of how much I hated him and it added more of the realness to the book. Might not seem logical but it makes sense in my crazy brain.

Overall, I really think any mafia trope lovers should read this book. It's not the typical story that you can get from just any author and I think it will surprise some people when they read it. I'm happy the next installment is coming soon because I definitely need to find out how Rafael and Julietta's story ends.
